British Egyptologist Lucia Gehlin will speak about pharaonic Egyptian queen Nefertiti, one of the most iconic figures in 3000 years of pharaonic Egypt.
“I came to the subject through a love of ancient languages, ancient mythology, ancient literature and ancient history and I studied Egyptology at university.
Ms Gehlin will explore the various roles played by Nefertiti and the other royal women of the time and how these were expressed in stunning artistic representations in her lecture.
“She's represented in a way unlike any other queen in 3000 years of remarkably consistent iconography.
“The whole ideology of the royal family is different during her and her husband Akhenaten's period of rule.
“We really only know a great deal about the female pharaoh Hatshepsut but I think that Nefertiti was particularly special and very likely even ruled Egypt for a short time.”
