In a significant lead-up to the Paralympic Games, Bugg secured his best international result by ending the eight-race regatta with a win and second place, outsailing many of his likely Rio rivals, including London 2012 Paralympic gold medallist Helena Lucas.
The Hobart sailor had two wins, three seconds, a third, sixth and seventh to finish eight points clear of Norwegian Bjermar Erikstad with Damien Sanquin , of France, third.
“I think it was a good test of an all-round sailor this week,” said the reigning Australian open champion who finished second in the world championship on the River Derwent in January.
“To come out and start my European season with a win will give me confidence leading into my next major regatta, which is the world championships, and ultimately the really important one, the Paralympic Games in September.”
