The man, who is known to police, was admitted to hospital but his condition is not life threatening.
“Last night a man was shot in the head in brazen but targeted circumstances in Sage Court Bridgewater. A shot was fired through the window,” Glenorchy CIB detective Inspector Craig Joel said.
Officers were called to the Sage Court home just after 9:00pm on Friday.
Media reports have highlighted the Bridgewater home was where mother-of-two Jodi Eaton was murdered in 2014.
“There’s no connection with the Jodi Eaton matter yet, we certainly haven’t identified one. But obviously it is brazen and targeted, we’re not closing our mind to any motive or cause,” Detective Inspector Joel said.
“It is very sad, it is very raw, police won’t make any further comment on the relationships revolving out of that and last night’s matter.”
Ms Eaton’s body was discovered on an isolated farm at Pelham in the Derwent Valley in 2014.
The Jodi Law Foundation was created in memory of Ms Eaton and to raise awareness about domestic violence.
The 54-year-old man lives at the address of the shooting.
Police believe it is part of an ongoing dispute, with no immediate threat to residents.
Tasmania Police remained in the area on Saturday and set up patrols through the evening.
The man is speaking to police but the identity of the shooter remains unknown.
“Police have a focus on removing illicit and stolen guns out of the hands of criminals,” Detective Inspector Joel said.
“Operation Unification has removed thousands of unwanted and illicit guns out of the community, and our commitment to this objective will continue.”
Detectives and forensic officers combed the area for evidence through to the early hours of the morning.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
