Emergency services were called to the four vehicle collision at the East Tamar Highway and the Newnham Link at about 4pm on Friday.
Initial investigations indicate that a Nissan utility was travelling south on the East Tamar Highway when it collided with a blue Subaru Impreza which was turning right from the Newnham Link, Tasmania Police said.
Two other passing vehicles were then struck as a result of the crash.
The 18-year-old male driver of the Subaru was taken from the vehicle and transported to Launceston General hospital.
The 62-year-old male driver of the Nissan was also taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Poor road conditions due to rain were believed to be a contributing factor.
“This is a timely reminder for drivers to be extra vigilant on the roads during poor weather conditions,” police said.
The East Tamar Highway was blocked for about 3 and a half hours while emergency crews worked at the scene.
Police have spoken with multiple witnesses at the scene, but anybody else witnessing the crash is asked to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
