The Australian show jumping team named on Thursday included 51-year-old Scott Keach, who grew up in Western and South Australia before moving to Florida and is returning to Olympic action 28 years after competing in Seoul.
A day later the three athletes selected to contest the women’s marathon in Brazil included Milly Clark.
The 26-year-old, who now lives in Sydney, will be making her Olympic debut after producing the qualifying time in her first serious attempt in October last year.
“Since receiving the news I have felt a mixed bag of emotions,” Clark said. “Pure happiness, excitement, pride, fear and even sadness for the other women who made the qualifying mark but missed out on their dream of the Olympics. This is without a doubt the greatest achievement of my life.”
