You may remember them from X-Static last week, and now they’re here. TINPAN ORANGE are doing two public shows in Tassie this weekend to promote their new album Love is a Dog. You can see them in Hobart at the Grand Poobah on Friday (show starts at 9pm, tickets are about $16). Then it’s up north for a Sunday gig at Fresh Cafe on Charles Street in Launceston. It starts at 7pm, and tickets are available online through eventbrite.com.au for both shows.
Masked party lords SLICE N DICE are taking over Hotel New York this weekend. The duo will headline the Launceston night club’s Hidden Forest Invasion on Saturday night. Entry is $10.
Next weekend is your last chance to catch Mary Shannon (Bansheeland) before she jets off for sometime. Shannon will be part of the May showcase for WHEN SHE BELIEVES. Alongside her will be Dani Quilliam, Bianca Jagoe, and special Hobart guest Maddy Jane. You can catch the gig at the Royal Oak in Launceston from 9pm on Friday, May 6. Entry is by gold coin donation.
Down South, there’s plenty to entertain you. Hobart metal group SCOPARIA are set to launch their EP The Idol’s Dream. They’ll be supported by Create The Crayon, and Zero Degrees Freedom. They’ll be playing the EP in its entirety – plus some other tracks – at the Republic Bar in Hobart on Friday, May 6. Doors open at 10pm and entry is $5.
Staying in Hobart, the Republic Bar is backing it up with a stellar musical platter on Saturday, May 7. Headling the night is SETH AND THE BEAUTIFUL CHAINS, with support from Winter York (Melbourne), Empire Park, and Betsy Blue. The show starts at 9.30pm, and entry is five bucks.
It seems like Melbourne party band THE BENNIES are vying for a world record for the most gigs played in Tassie in one calendar year. The loveable lads this week announced yet another tour (they’re currently gigging around Europe) for June-July. They’ll be gracing our shores twice, playing Club 54 in Launceston on Wednesday, June 22, and the following night at the Brisbane Hotel in Hobart. Tickets for both gigs are on sale now for $28-ish.
