Council released the Deloraine Outline Development Plan draft earlier this month, which aims to direct the town’s progress over the next two decades.
The ODP draft details an aspiring vision for the development of Alveston Drive sporting precinct, beginning with a new netball facility before tackling the football ground, squash courts, and various clubrooms.
Part one of the project is already underway, with council agreeing to place the proposed $300,000 netball facility development on its federal election priority funding list earlier this month.
“I think it's really important to recognise that that's been a community-driven plan by many of the sporting users and we're really interested to see how that continues to progress,” Cr Perkins said.
“We'll need to get the final plan and make a decision in due course around it but the engagement around recreation facilities has been really high and that's what we wanted.”
Cr Perkins said while there was plenty of water to flow under bridge before the plans were put into action, the community’s enthusiasm to contribute to the planning stage was a positive sign.
"There's a number of elements to it that we need to consider like land acquisition and a whole lot of other things.
“I think most importantly the fact that users of the sporting facilities have come together and designed how they'd like to see their future spaces is really encouraging so from that point of view any other feedback from members of the community would be really interesting and welcome to hear."
Cr Perkins said strong community engagement was key to ensuring the town’s most pressing issues were addressed in the ODP.
"It should be a plan that drives a lot of our thinking for Deloraine for the next 10 to 20 years so it's important we get any key items and issues identified up front and early, especially for us to do more work around taking a concept from concept stage to feasibility and planning."
Deloraine residents are encouraged to submit their feedback on the ODP before 5pm, Friday May 6, with the draft available for viewing on the Meander Valley Council website or at council headquarters in Westbury.
