Compiled by JMG Engineers & Planners and Miriam Vandenberg, the finalised ODP will provide a blueprint for the town’s development over the next 20 years.
Meander Valley mayor Craig Perkins urged Deloraine residents to help shape the future of the town by registering feedback on the draft plan.
“It's an important document for council and it's open for public comment and we'd like as much of the public as we can to review it and provide us with feedback, that's really important for us at this point,” Cr Perkins said.
“The document ends up being reflected in our long term financial plans and capital works plans and the like so we're really keen to get as much of the community to give us feedback as we can.”
The ODP covers four key themes including community and recreational facilities, local business, tourism and the arts, urban design, development and infrastructure and social infrastructure.
Cr Perkins said there was plenty to think about in the plan, including the future direction of facilities and infrastructure and actively fostering the town’s unique character.
“The creativity and arts community is certainly reflected in the ODP draft plan but I think also importantly the function that Deloraine plays as a commercial hub for surrounding rural communities certainly can't be lost so there's a number of elements to it.
“The most important thing is feedback from the community to ensure that Deloraine remains relevant as both a commercial hub for the rural community and as a place people want to live.”
Copies of the ODP draft are available for viewing on the Meander Valley council homepage or at council headquarters in Westbury.
Feedback can be submitted before 5pm, Friday May 6 by post, online or in a survey available on the Meander Valley Council website.
