The 8mm pixel pitch screen will make its debut at the ground’s opening fixture of the season, while the old screen will continue its 10 years of service at its new site near the old scoreboard.
Inveresk Precinct Authority manager Robert Groenewegen said the $425,000 project was a welcome upgrade for the stadium.
‘‘I guess what we’re trying to do from the council’s point of view along with Hawthorn is to try and continually improve the fan experience,’’ he said.
‘‘Our screen which has served us well for the last 10 years still will do the job but obviously when you see the difference in clarity between the two it’s quite massive.’’
The new screen also allows for greater fan interaction, possessing the capacity to display Tweets, selfies and various other social media.
A third screen will soon be erected on the opposite side of the RACT stand, facing towards Invermay Road.
York Park and Inveresk Precinct Authority Chairman Alderman Hugh McKenzie said as well as providing a better matchday experience for football fans outside the ground, the screen could be easily transferred to and from the stadium.
‘‘The beauty about that screen is that we can pick it up and we’ll be using that for other events in and around Launceston as part of the City Heart project,’’ he said.
‘‘It just means if we need it in the mall or we need it somewhere we can pick it up and move it around to the cycling or the tennis or where we think it needs to be.’’
