Asbestos was found in the facility’s air conditioning plant late last year after the building was redeveloped.
LINC Tasmania’s Ross Latham said air quality tests returned positive levels, but the organisation decided to stop using the plant and instead get it fixed.
Launceston LINC posted on its Facebook page at the start of January that ‘‘for the comfort of our clients we have changed our opening hours to avoid heat build-up in the late afternoon’’.
Portable air conditioning units and fans were brought in to cool down the space during opening hours while the air conditioning was switched off.
Mr Latham said the asbestos had been removed and the plant was up and running again with a ‘‘partial air flow’’.
He said Launceston LINC hoped to make an announcement on Friday saying the library would return to its usual operating hours from Monday.
‘‘The aircon will be back on but won’t be fully operational,’’ Mr Latham said.
‘‘The final works will be finished in March.’’
