The annual Aussiecoupes Car and Bike Show at Relbia showcased the personal collection of more than 400 Tasmanian collectors that brought out automobiles from the 1920 vintage models to 21st century speed and convenience.
But shiny crowd favourites Mustangs, Monaros, Toranas, along with XDs and coupes, were overshadowed by good-hearted motor enthusiasts, who dug deep for a good cause.
Event organiser Kylie Smith said a record $5000 was raised for sick children with congenital and acquired heart disease that has now tallied more than $20,000 over six years of the the charity show.
‘‘It goes to HeartKids and it helps out parents and their kids who have any sort of heart troubles,’’ she said.
‘‘So it’s when they go to Melbourne and get food vouchers or help with flights.’’
Away from the standard classics, a classic XB Ford Falcon Mad Max Interceptor replica drew a few raised eyebrows.
John Goodyer, from Mayfield, had a vision or two that mates at his local watering hole found hard to believe.
‘‘I have always been into movies cars for a long time – I was actually a very big fan of Starsky and Hutch,’’ he said.
‘‘I was down at the Archers Manor one night on the grog and said to boys down there I am going to build a Mad Max car and they all laughed at me.’’
‘‘A few months later I built the black one and that’s been on the road about five years, and I built this other one because I wanted the pair, you see.’’
