After losing two early wickets, Mowbray’s Mathew Scolyer and Clinton Reid put on a stand of 67 before the former was dismissed off the bowling of Cameron Lynch for 37.
Sharing in a 46-run partnership with Fletcher Seymour, Reid then went on to lead his team to a total of 5-183, finishing on a splendid 92 not out.
Jackson Miller was the pick of the bowlers for Launceston, taking 2-34 off 10, while coach Andy Gower chipped in with 1-28.
In reply, Launceston opener Alistair Taylor was dismissed in the opening over before teammates Lynch and Miller put on a stand of 121 to see their side cruising towards victory with 13 overs to go.
The result was not to be however, with Jarrod Freeman and Jerome Illingworth combining in a spell where Launceston lost 6-10 to crumble to 7-132.
Launceston finished on 9-169 with Freeman taking 4-36 and Illingworth 3-25.
‘‘It was a pretty good bowling effort from our bowlers and I thought it was a pretty good total on a pretty tough wicket to bat on,’’ Mowbray captain John Le Fevre said.
‘‘We managed to sneak our way to 180 runs basically on the back of Clinton Reid.’’
Le Fevre said he was impressed with his side’s effort to fight back from a losing position.
‘‘We were able to tough it out and get the breakthrough that we needed and after that we bowled really well and got on a roll and managed to bowl them out.’’
WESTBURY moved back into the top four with a commanding 96-run win against Riverside. Batting first, the Shamrocks made solid partnerships right throughout the innings, bolstered by a 55-ball 59 from Dane Anderson which included seven boundaries.
Coach Shaun Leatherbarrow and Kieran Hume also posted handy scores, making 35 and 30 respectively to help Westbury to 8-195.
Spinner Ramesh Sundra was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3-28 from his nine overs, while Alex Kerrison collected figures of 2-35.
After an early run-out dismissed form batsman Tom Garwood, Riverside lost regular wickets in the chase thanks to some tight bowling from Jono Chapman and Justin Curbishley.
Patrick Mackrell top-scored with 14 while Sundra also provided some resistance but it was not enough to help Riverside into three figures, and they were eventually bowled out for 99.
Leatherbarrow said the win was the result of a solid team performance.
‘‘It was great today to get back on the winners list and start playing some good quality cricket again,’’ he said.
‘‘The bowlers bowled really tight lines and our fielding was up, there was a lot more energy around today, getting a runout early makes a difference.’’
Leatherbarrow said his side could be a big threat in finals should it string a run of wins together.
‘‘We’re running out of time to make a run to the finals so everyone needed to lift a little bit and I think we’ve been able to do that based on today’s game.
‘‘Next week shapes up as being a really important match for us against Launceston, if we can get a good win in the next game then that goes a long way to consolidating our spot in the top and hopefully then making a good run at another grand final.’’
SOUTH LAUNCESTON recorded a big win in their away clash with George Town.
The George Town innings got off to a promising start, with Marshall Pooley and Robert Crane combining to help their side reach 1-59.
From then, wickets fell regularly to see George Town bowled out for 127, with Jack Young and Graham Donaldson the chief destroyers for South Launceston.
South Launceston openers Mackenzie Barker and Sean Harris then combined in an unbeaten 128-run stand to see their side home to a 10-wicket win.
