The project for the boat ramp was initiated by the Legana Community Group, through its Jetty Road Foreshore Subcommittee.
Subcommittee president Jim Collier said he was feeling extremely hopeful.
"The main obstacle at the moment is Marine and Safety Tasmania because we are looking at them to provide the remaining finances to get the ramp up and running," he said. "Everybody else is supporting it."
Problems indicated by MAST from past submissions had included inadequate support from council - something that has since been rectified by the West Tamar Council submitting its full support for the boat ramp.
"They have made significant financial contributions in the approach to the boat ramp site to facilitate it, so we're happy that we've got their support," Mr Collier said.
"We've also got $250,000 from the state government as a pre-election commitment."
The boat ramp is one aspect of a concept plan to develop a walkway and sports and recreational area along the Legana foreshore.
As one of the fastest growing localities within the West Tamar municipal area, the West Tamar Council acknowledged the benefits of the proposed sports and recreation area on both community members and visitation numbers to the area.
Mr Collier also said both projects would provide an integral part of a proposed entire riverside recreational facility, not just for the West Tamar boating community but for visitors and tourist as well. "Legana is a riverside community yet the access to the river is very limited … so we would like to change that," Mr Collier said.
A new boat ramp at Legana was also said to take pressure off other boat access points within the Tamar region.
The funding results from MAST regarding the Legana boat ramp funding will be known towards the end of June.
