Community groups with projects that will contribute to the East and West Tamar regions are welcome to apply.
TEMCO is based in Bell Bay and is a manganese alloy plant that's operations were first established by BHP in 1962.
TEMCO vice-president operations Greg Hannan said South32 is looking forward to supporting community projects.
"The East and West Tamar regions are near our operations and where most of our employees live," Mr Hannan said.
"We're looking for initiatives that provide lasting community benefit in areas like education and training, sport and recreation, arts and culture, youth development, and environmental conservation and biodiversity," he said.
South32 TEMCO community manager Andrew Taylor, who is overseeing the process, said the inaugural grants process will occur quarterly, and the organisation aims to give out $20,000 worth of grants each round.
"The framework, and some of the focus areas and the criteria, are very very focused to try and give stakeholders in these particular areas the opportunity to do some activities that perhaps they may not have got funding for previously," Mr Taylor said.
Grant applications will be assessed on how well the relevant project serves the needs of the community; how it will create a lasting impact; how well it will incorporate community participation and how it will complement other projects and activities in the area.
