The event was held at Aurora Stadium on Sunday and organisers, the Van Diemens Street Rod Club, believe about 3000 people went through the gates.

A blue 1957 Chevrolet, owned by Keren Keegan and her husband, took out the people’s choice award, with many other awards announced on the day.

Craig Hawksley’s 1954 Ford Customline, which was imported from America before he bought it a few years ago, was another highlight.

Mr Hawksley, of Launceston, said the two-door car was ‘‘pretty well the same’’ when he bought it.

‘‘I’ve pretty much just fixed mechanical things up on it,’’ Mr Hawksley said.

‘‘I use it a bit, but it is not my everyday car.

‘‘I have always liked old Fords.’’

Mr Hawksley said he usually attended car shows, but Sunday was the first time he had shown off his own Ford.

American cars – including hot rods, Camaros and Mustangs – and Australian muscle cars were the main vehicles on show.

DJ Jack kept crowds dancing with his rock and roll music selection, while two rockabilly fashion parades were also held.

Van Diemens Street Rod Club president Grant Sutton said Sunday was the first time in a number of years that the event had been held under the Aurora Stadium grandstand and in its adjacent paddock.

He believed the venue layout improvements and word of mouth had attracted more people to the event.
