Monday morning proved to be an anxious wait for the thousands of year 11 and 12 students who received their Tasmanian Certificate of Education scores.
Launceston College year 12 student Marie Stewart, 18, may be humble but it was hard to not be impressed by her near-perfect Australian Tertiary Admission Rank of 99.8.
Marie is living proof that hard work pays off and, after a year of constant study, she managed to claim her spot as one of the highest achievers in the North.
She joined Launceston College student Henry Austin-Stone and Scotch Oakburn College's Matthew Robertson to take out the top three Northern scores.
The top three students in the state were Adeline Gabriel and Sylvia Lawrence, both from St Michael's Collegiate School, and Lewis Johnson, from Hobart College.
In the North-West, the top three students were Alexandra Fuller and Jacob Rundle, from Don College, and Ignacio Cuello-Reyes, from Hellyer College.
Marie had a lot of her plate this year, having chosen to study physics, chemistry, economics and sports science, but said she was not as nervous about getting her results as she had been the previous year.
"When I read the email I was pretty excited and pleased," she said.
"I will probably go to uni but I'm not very good at decisions so I haven't made up my mind yet.
"I think it will be something to do with science or physiotherapy or medicine."
Education Minister Jeremy Rockliff sent his congratulations to every student who was successful in attaining their TCE. "For those who didn't go as well as they hoped there are always more opportunities to continue their education and get set up for the exciting, challenging and varied futures they have ahead of them."
