Ms Butterworth was last seen at a bus stop in Hobart in August 1969.
A blue FB Holden was also seen in the area around the time of her disappearance, the inquest was told.
A coronial inquest in Hobart on Wednesday heard that convicted murderer and prime suspect Geoffrey Charles Hunt owned a blue coloured FB Holden in 1969.
But he told the inquest he only drove it twice in 1969 - once in April and again in December - because the car had engine issues.
Mr Hunt admitted he could have driven the vehicle whenever he wanted during 1969, however.
"There was nothing stopping me," he said.
The inquest continues.
