The 21-year-old was picked in the national side for the four-day tour match which begins on Wednesday in Brisbane alongside fellow Tasmanian Jordan Silk.
The match will be the West Indies first hit-out ahead of the First Test against Australia, beginning on Thursday, December 10, in Hobart.
The Cricket Australia XI match against the West Indies will Lees’s first national call-up.
‘‘I was pretty happy to be picked and it will be a good experience for me and good to see where my cricket is at,’’ he said.
Lees is in his third year of club cricket in Hobart after receiving a Tassie Tigers rookie contract straight after finishing school in Launceston.
He has been playing Futures League cricket in the Tasmanian second XI team in Coffs Harbour this week.
‘‘Earlier on in the season my form with the ball was pretty good – I’ve just come back from a bit of a niggle with a thigh injury and I’m just trying to find my way at the minute,’’ he said.
‘‘I am just happy to be playing some more games of cricket and it will be brilliant to bowl to players like Darren Bravo and Marlon Samuels.’’
Lees said he was hoping to be able to break into the Tassie Tigers team at some stage and was learning a lot from being around the squad.
‘‘I am learning off some great players such as Jackson Bird, Ben Hilfenhaus and Luke Butterworth and at the moment I just want to keep learning and keep going from there,’’ he said.
‘‘I was selected for the Matador squad this year but got dropped because the Aussie tour was cancelled and one of the boys came back in.
‘‘At the moment I am doing the right thing and hope to one day play for the Tigers.’’
Lees said he tries to catch up with his former Launceston Cricket Club teammates whenever possible but does not get back from Hobart very often.
