STRONG winds have wreaked havoc in the south of the state, with emergency services responding to reports of fallen powerlines and trees blocking roads for much of Wednesday evening.

A handful of sites recorded wind gusts of more than 100km/h, with Mount Wellington experiencing winds up to 126km/h in the early afternoon.
There were also reports of houses in Moonah and Montagu Bay suffering roof damage, with tiles being lifted up in the gusts.
Police advised motorists on the Tasman Peninsula to drive to the conditions and to watch for fallen trees and branches on the road.
