Christian Mark Whiteman was taken to Royal Hobart Hospital on Sunday afternoon with severe head injuries following an incident at Invermay.
Mr Whiteman is in an induced coma.
His alleged attacker, Jamie Alexander Collins, 21, remains before the court charged with grievous bodily harm.
