THE Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for areas across the North of the state for Wednesday afternoon and into the evening.

The bureau has warned damaging winds could affect people on the West Coast first before impacting the North Coast, Central Plateau and Bass Strait Islands, due to a cold front passing across the state.
Damaging north westerly winds of about 50 km/h, with peak gusts of up to 100 km/h are forecast.
The State Emergency Service and Tasmania Police have advised that people should supervise children closely, secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment, check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings, manage pets and livestock, be prepared in case of power outages, and beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving.
