The annual Christmas tradition will kick off on the Esplanade on Saturday, with this year’s theme focusing on all things Disney.
Parade-goers young and old can expect appearances from classic characters like Cinderella and Prince Charming, Woody and Buzz, and newer crowd favourites like Frozen’s Elsa and Anna.
About 2000 parade-goers are expected to watch the event, with about 500 people on 35 floats participating in the parade itself.
Staff from Prospect Medical Centre and Trevallyn Skin Clinic and their families were now hoping their Toy Story and A Mad Hatter’s Christmas Dinner floats will impress the crowd, after winning two awards for last year’s float.
‘‘We’re doing it because we like to put something back into the community,’’ Prospect Medical Centre practice manager Cecily Igglesden said.
‘‘We obviously see a lot of patients and we want to give something back by putting a float in the parade for everyone to enjoy.’’
The team worked two months in their spare time to create intricate tissue paper flowers, Christmas treats and even an oversized paper mache tea setting.
APEX Launceston Christmas Parade co-ordinator Anita Cox said the parade would be a great day out in the city.
‘‘It kicks off the spirit at the start of the festive season,’’ Ms Cox said.
‘‘It’s a good way to bring people into the city as well, because people stick around and do a bit of shopping and stuff with the kids.’’
