And regardless of whether universal male shed ownership is in fact a necessity, every man in the East Tamar area will have access to one following the opening of a men's shed in Dilston this Saturday.
East Tamar Men's Shed will join the growing force of 20-odd men's sheds in the state, which seek to get men connected in their local community.
Five years after its conception, the organisation will unveil its first official headquarters - the building vacated by the Dilston Fire Service.
East Tamar Men's Shed secretary Jon Honsford said his organisation had raised more than $14,000 towards the construction of a shed when the building became available.
"In 2012 they were granted a new engine that wouldn't fit the shed so the shed became redundant," he said.
"We had a couple of members who were volunteer firemen with the Tasmanian Fire Service and they sowed the seed that perhaps Tas Fire getting a grant could probably help us with a building."
Mr Honsford encouraged anyone interested in woodwork or metalwork construction or even just socialising with fellow community members to get involved in the organisation.
"They're activities that give our members the opportunity to be involved and they become quite involved in the process.
"It allows them to be somewhere regular a couple of times a week if they want to have guys that are supportive around them."
Mr Honsford said there were currently 25 members involved in the organisation and projects were well and truly up for discussion.
"We're open-eared and open-minded about supporting projects to support our members in terms of their social welfare, their mental health and their physical health."
