Mr Chugg said the $10,000 recently presented to the school by Foundation 33 would help support a young pupil whose family was unable to pay school fees.

"We took him on as a student in the hope that we could find some support to get his school fees paid for the duration of his schooling so his family can concentrate on the other complexities of life," he said.

"Our program is quite intensive and very expensive to run and all these donations help us to provide a high-quality education and therapy to our students."

Mr Chugg said Giant Steps provided children on the autism spectrum with an opportunity to receive an education that would provide them with skills to lead an independent life.

The funds were raised by Foundation 33 during their Black and White cocktail event in August, and were presented to Mr Chugg during a celebratory morning tea in early November.

Mr Chugg said he was particularly grateful for the hard work of Foundation 33 committee members in raising the funds.

"It was a very pleasant surprise to be considered by [Foundation 33] in the first place, and the event they put on was great and obviously well supported because it raised a fairly hefty amount in the current poor economic climate," he said.

"It shows that the Tasmanian people are always really supportive, it's great."

Foundation 33 also raised money for Variety on November 20 with a trivia night at the Summerdale Community Centre.
