Cattle and horse judging were main attractions this year, with many hoping they’d win a prize. Scottsdale High School student Grace Chatwin, 13, was one of those lucky enough to win Breed Class Reserve Champion for her heifer, Summerhill Katy.
The year-eight student initially joined the school’s cattle handling program, run on the Stronach View Angus Stud, to conquer a fear of cattle.
``We moved down from Queensland for my father’s job and ... I thought, seeing as there’s so many [cattle], I might as well get over the fear,’’ Grace said.
Having faced her fear, Ms Chatwin now wants to pursue a career in cattle handling.
Scottsdale Show Society president Noelene Lette said the show continued to be a great community event for the area.
``What it does is bring everybody out together, young and old, and some of these people here today probably haven’t seen each other since last year’s show,’’ she said.
Other highlights of the show this year included the free laser skirmish, the homecraft pavilion, and the many rides on offer.
