Prior to kicking off their community festival, students, teachers, parents and interested community members donned dog suits with the record of 264 set firmly in their sights.
Teacher Janine Spicer said the achievement was credit to the efforts of a group of parents who spent several months making the costumes.
"We ended up doing it easily, I think we got 324," she said.
"There were some in my kindergarten class that had the dog noises down pat and even had the actions going."
Mrs Spicer said she was surprised by the strict guidelines which needed to be followed to make it a genuine world record attempt.
As well as requiring painted noses and bare feet, the canine cohort were required to stay fully costumed in the room for at least five minutes.
"When we saw the actual official rules we realised that they take it very seriously the world record, as much as you can when you're all dressed as dogs.
"You had to be into the gym by 2.30pm and then the doors were locked and no one else could enter.
"You couldn't be in there unless you were dressed as a dog unless you were a judge so it was very entertaining."
Mrs Spicer said she was delighted with the community's response to both the world record attempt and the community festival it preceded.
"It was really nice because I just presumed it would be students and teachers but there were a lot of parents who came and there were parents that you don't often see at school."
