Megan Wills, who has worked in the sector in Arizona for more than two decades, arrived in the state last week as part of an exchange program between Tasmania and the US.
As the associate director of child and family services at the Easter Seals Blake Foundation in Tucson, Mrs Wills works for an organisation that helps 18,000 children and adults throughout Arizona.
She split her time between Hobart and Launceston during her stay and said that she will leave the state on Saturday with only glowing reviews of the staff and services at St Giles.
Specialising in early intervention, newborn intensive and respite programs, Mrs Wills said what really stood out on her visit was the genuine passion shown by all staff.
‘‘One of the main aims of the exchange study is to share with each other what I am doing in the States in comparison to what they’re doing here,’’ she said.
‘‘Being able to sit in with the team members and talk with the families has just been so exciting; it still brings a smile to my face now.
‘‘The team here is just so genuine and so wonderful with families that it’s just been so amazing to see.’’
Mrs Wills will fly to Adelaide on Saturday to spend a week at a similar organisation.
