Sales bought Animi Sub Ignis as a yearling in Queensland four years ago but had to wait until last night before the five-year-old saluted for the first time.
Animi Sub Ignis ($19.30) came with a well-timed run to win running away from favourite Metro Mouse ($1.80) and Berri Damour ($2.20).
Amino Sub Ignis is prepared at Wesley Vale by John Castles, who was forced to spell the gelding just over 12 months ago when he noticed a small tear in his suspensory ligament.
Castles wisely "pulled stumps" on the preparation, sending him for a long spell, and last night was his first appearance since August last year.
Castles is confident that there is still further improvement in Amino Sub Ignis and is looking forward to more wins in the coming weeks.
Amino Sub Ignis, like his sire, Courage Under Fire, is not very big but possesses plenty of speed, and Castles believes the time off might have been a blessing in disguise for him.
Sales, the former council clerk at Devonport, now lives at Mount Stuart but maintains a close association with Castles and has raced several horses with him.
Castles has five horses in work, and last night's win continues a good run of success for him as he has been winning regularly with Chirac.
Regular stable driver Erin Holloway had the winning drive on Amino Sub Ignis.
Two to Jukebox
CONSISTENT 10-year-old Jukebox Music made it two wins on end and nosed out favourite Devendra in the Tasmanian Show Cup.
Jukebox Music, having his 189th start, sprinted from back in the field to edge ahead of the 30-metre backmarker and continue his patch of good form.
Jukebox Music is trained at Brighton and last night was driven by Dylan Ford.
Devendra wasn't disgraced in running second, as he made a quick move from the rear and was caught out by the finishing sprint of Jukebox Magic.
Devendra is entered for next month's Inter-Dominion Pacing Series in Western Australia, and connections will decide shortly when he leaves to join trainer James Rattray in Sydney. Devendra is one of six horses to represent Rattray in the Inter-Dominion, including dual champion Beautide.
Holloway stars
ERIN Holloway took driving honours at the meeting when she completed a double on former New South Wales pacer Wingatui Dew.
The five-year-old made a successful Tasmanian debut in Launceston a fortnight ago, winning in 1:58.7, and although he wasn't as quick last night he was just as impressive.
After racing outside the leader, Wingatui Dew ($1.30 fav) pulled clear going down the back and then defied Im Full Tilt ($10.80) to run him down.
The five-year-old is prepared at Bridport by Grant Hodges, and the winning double increased Holloway's lead in the female drivers premiership.
Rainbow tribute
REINSMEN wore black armbands as a mark of respect for the passing of trainer Keith Rainbow last Thursday.
Rainbow died at his home at Scottdale after suffering a short illness.
Rainbow prepared many horses over the years, with the best being 2001 Dandy Patch Stakes winner Another Toota.
