Waterhouse Island can be found about three kilometres off the North-East coast of Tasmania and, as of Friday, is on the market.
The 278-hectare island comes complete with its own pristine beaches, a jetty and a three-bedroom house overlooking the water.
Ray White Southern Tasmania director Ant Manton said that he was expecting to hear from international buyers interested in buying their own slice of Tasmania.
The property has been in the same hands for the past 45 years but after just one day on the market, 12 inquiries had already been made.
‘‘There’s about 6000 islands around Tassie but only nine of them are freehold and this is one of them,’’ Mr Manton said.
‘‘Families used to graze sheep and deer on it but more recently they’ve just been using it as a holiday getaway.
‘‘We’re pretty confident that it will move given the fact that it’s such a unique opportunity.’’
The island is about one kilometre wide and four kilometres long and includes solar panels, running water and phone reception.
Waterhouse Island is accessible by boat or is a 10-minute plane ride from Bridport.
Mr Manton said that shortly, the company would be rolling out an international marketing campaign to attract overseas buyers.
