Over the past few months, the Beaconsfield Youth Centre has doubled its participation, growing in attendance from 12 children to about 25.
Thanks to partnerships with the Beaconsfield Neighbourhood House, the Beaconsfield District High School and the appointment of the new West Tamar Council youth development officer for the area, Andrew Beeston, there are big plans for the future of the program.
Whether it is activities after school, over weekends or during school holidays, the stakeholders have plans to increase offerings for young people in the area.
The Loft at the Beaconsfield Community Centre has extended its hours to be open three days a week, there are plans to celebrate National Youth Weeks in the town and the skate park will soon be repainted to make it more welcoming for visitors.
The additional resources in the area were made possible thanks to the generosity of the Irene Phelps Charitable Trust.
Mrs Phelps grew up at Beaconsfield and wanted when she died to give something back to the community by supporting local young people and creating more opportunities for growth.
Mr Beeston said that there were big plans to get more activities up and running.
"Our vision is that every young person gets cared for and they get mentored for life," Mr Beeston said.
"We want them to have a good start in their education and in their careers and to be cared for by their community.
"This is a really good hangout spot for them where they can just relax and chill."
