Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull made the announcement Sunday morning, ending mounting speculation Mr Whiteley would land the gig.
''Brett has extensive parliamentary experience as a former Tasmanian State MP and joins fellow Tasmanians Minister Richard Colbeck and Senate President Stephen Parry in senior positions,'' Mr Turnbull said.
Nola Marino will become the first female Liberal to become Chief Government Whip, with Queenslander Ewen Jones rounding out the line-up.
''The Whips roles are vitally important to the smooth running of our Parliament and are a key link to my office. I thank Nola, Brett and Ewen for agreeing to serve in these roles,'' Mr Turnbull said.
The Prime Minister thanked sacked whips Mr Nikolic and Scott Buchholz for their service in an email to his Liberal colleagues.
The Senate Whips positions have not yet been finalised.
