The National Centre for Vocational Education Research has released its apprentices and trainees report for the March quarter, which shows that Tasmania's take-up rate had grown by 2.8 per cent to 8252 in the year to March.
The 25 to 44-year-old bracket saw the largest number of people taking up VET study, followed by those aged 19 and under.
The most popular occupation areas were equally in the technician and trade areas and clerical and administration fields.
Education Minister Nick McKim said it was important to equip Tasmanians with the new jobs of now and into the future.
``In a time of relative skills shortage, it's very encouraging to see apprenticeships and traineeships increasing well in Tasmania,'' he said.
Mr McKim said that subject to the Legislative Council passing legislation for the implementation of TasTAFE, the VET system would improve further.
