The scholarships will allow Jade Jones, of Queechy High, Jemma Mitchell, of Riverside High, Nathaniel Heazlewood, of Brooks High, and Chyane Tafari, of Kings Meadows High – all of whom are enrolled in Newstead College for 2016 – to participate in NIDA workshops at Newstead College in October.
Newstead College performing arts teacher Simone Rigby said schools were approached to select an outstanding drama student who was dedicated to the craft.
‘‘It’s been great for their self-esteem. They have been acknowledged and singled out by their schools, who think they are valuable students with obvious talent,’’ she said.
‘‘It is a really positive experience. They get to do something a bit different to what they normally might do in the classroom at school, and they are taught by people from NIDA who are working in the
film, television and theatre industries.
‘‘The students might even recognise the actors taking the classes.’’
Mrs Rigby said the NIDA workshops were valued up to $500.
She said the workshops would be open to the public and were for primary, high and college-age students and adults.
