NORTH Launceston's Josh Holland was rapt to win the State League's Darrel Baldock Medal as best on ground in Saturday's grand final.
The 32-year-old Holland was enticed to North this season by his good mate, coach Zane Littlejohn, and repaid that faith with a standout game which included booting a miraculous winning goal late in the final quarter.
"You pride yourself as you get older on playing well in the big games and there is no bigger game than this," Holland said.
"Everything just seemed to fall into my lap today but I am very happy that I made the move.
"I don't even remember the goal - I just slapped it onto the boot and it sailed through and that was a really good feeling.
"After that goal I think that was it - everyone was fumbling in the last quarter but our fitness reigned supreme and that's what we pride ourselves on."
Holland had a stellar career in NTFL football winning three premierships with Latrobe, five club best and fairest awards and the Baldock Medal as the league's best and fairest player twice.
"I thought I would come and play my role at the start of the year - maybe sit in the forward pocket and kick a few goals but I started to work on my fitness and Zane started playing me in the midfield and the rest is history," he said.
"The first five or six weeks I was lost with the speed of it and you have to get rid of it as quick as you can - it is a really good comp and I am really glad I made the move.
"Three Baldocks - I am pretty happy, anything associated with the Baldock name is pretty good and best on in a grand final trumps the league best and fairest.
"I will sit down with Zane in a couple of weeks' time and discuss with my family and we will see what happens for next year."
