The council was awarded with the Heart Foundation Local Government Award today for its contribution to decreasing heart disease in the region.
The area's commitment to the health and wellbeing of its residents has grown to include many facilities aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle.
The upgrade of the Longford Cycling Track, the creation of the Longford Walk Through History walk and the council's work with Health Revival Longford to rejuvenate the Community Sports Centre were all recognised by the Heart Foundation.
The organisation's Tasmanian chief executive Graeme Lynch said that the council had shown exceptional commitment to the cause.
"These Heart Foundation Awards recognise the outstanding commitment of local governments around Australia in introducing measures which help us in the fight against heart disease," Mr Lynch said.
