Christo Brown, 18, faced the Launceston Magistrates Court by video-link from custody on Thursday.
Defence solicitor Hannah Phillips entered not guilty pleas to both of her client's charges.
She said she planned to file an application for bail at a later date after seeking instructions.
Magistrate Simon Brown acknowledged Mr Brown's not guilty pleas to the indictable allegations and committed him for trial in the Supreme Court in Launceston.
The magistrate ordered the accused to reappear there on November 16 at 10am and further remanded him in custody.
Last month, Tasmania Police extradited Mr Brown from Victoria to face court over the allegations.
Police have accused him of a rape and aggravated burglary in Launceston on July 29.
