The George Town Council’s Bell Bay Investment Prospectus was discussed at a cabinet meeting on Thursday and State Growth Minister Matthew Groom took the document to the Asian mega-nation when he flew out for the eight-day trip.
Mayor Bridget Archer said the opportunity to open direct dialogue with ministers was productive.
‘‘We have been doing a lot of work with the office of the Co-ordinator-General and we have put together an economic development prospectus for Bell Bay,’’ she said.
‘‘It is about trying to promote Bell Bay ... we have got excellent port facilities, rail and taking the opportunity to sell that both domestically and internationally is important.
‘‘Council’s focus is to reinvigorate economic development and industry and also with a focus of merging tourism into George Town where we think tourism and industry can co-exist.’’
She said a shared recreational walkway-bike track along the north coast was also among several strategic projects the council would like to see proceed.
Cr Archer said stage 1 could potentially be a Green Army project from Low Head to Bell Buoy Beach, and that conceivably could stretch through to Weymouth and Bellingham or even Bridport.
Premier Will Hodgman said the prospectus would be handed to potential investors ‘‘that might look to George Town and surrounds for industrial-scale development or an other opportunities’’.
‘‘We’ve a tremendous opportunity now with China, they are our largest trading partner.’’
