Christo Brown, 18, faced the Launceston Magistrates Court by video-link from custody on Thursday.
Defence solicitor Hannah Phillips said her client pleaded not guilty to his two charges.
She said she planned to file an application for bail at a later date.
Magistrate Simon Brown acknowledged Mr Brown's not guilty pleas to the indictable allegations and committed him for trial in the Supreme Court in Launceston.
He ordered Mr Brown to reappear there on November 16 at 10am and remanded him in custody.
Last month, Tasmania Police extradited Christo Brown from Victoria to face court over the allegations.
Police have accused him of a rape and aggravated burglary in Launceston on July 29.
