According to figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, retail spending was flat in Tasmania in July in trend terms.
The following states and territories rose in trend terms in July: New South Wales (0.4%), Victoria (0.2%), Western Australia (0.1%), the Australian Capital Territory (0.5%), South Australia (0.1%) and the Northern Territory (0.3%). Like Tasmania, Queensland (0.0%) was relatively unchanged.
Nationally, retail trade fell 0.1 per cent in July, seasonally adjusted, following a rise of 0.6 per cent in June.
In seasonally adjusted terms there were rises in clothing, footwear and personal accessory retailing (2.9 per cent), department stores (1.3 per cent) and cafes, restaurants and takeaway food services (0.3 per cent). Food retailing (0.0 per cent) was relatively unchanged. There were falls in household goods retailing (-1.9 per cent) and other retailing (-0.6 per cent) following rises in both industries in June.
