And, after playing alongside Mumford & Sons, selling out UK shows and playing Bonnaroo Festival, they'll be bringing their debut album For The Company to the Falls Festival smorgasbord later on this year.

Since their formation in 2012, the band has clocked up nearly 2 million Soundcloud listens and has received airplay on BBC Radio 1, Radio 2 and Radio 6.

Guitarist Liz Drummond said the October 9 release was a darker and more mature collection of songs that marked how far the trio has come as a group.

"I think we're all bringing a lot of different things to the table now," she said.

"When we were younger I think we were assimilating with each other more, which we still do but in a more mature way now."

As a long-time fan of The National, Drummond said it was a dream come true to have Aaron Dessner produce her band's debut album.

"They're a huge influence for us.

"Aaron was at the top of our list for producers that we wanted to work with, so we were very lucky that we got that opportunity.

"He's very good at making songs sound quite mature and really sophisticated."

According to their Facebook page, Little May's four main interests are bagels, eagles, beagles and beetles, although one gets the impression the last three are little more than an afterthought.

Drummond said she was the only one not bringing bagels to the table at band meetings.

"Everyone seems to like bagels except for me, I can't really justify the bagel talk," she said.

"We've been in New York quite a bit recently, so they have really good bagels, I'm just not really a fan.

"I find them a bit bland to be honest."

Drummond said she hoped the Falls scheduling would allow her time to embrace some Tasmanian culture before flying back to the mainland.

"I really really want to go to MONA, but I don't know if we're going to get the opportunity.

"But I've never been to Tassie, so that'll be really cool, I'm excited about that."
