Darren Michael Dobson, 39, had pleaded guilty to the strangling murder of Sorell woman Jodi Eaton, 28, in February last year at a Bridgewater house.
The Supreme Court of Tasmania in Hobart on Friday heard of Dobson's violent past, including rape, assault and assault of a pregnant woman.
Acting Director of Public Prosecutions Darryl Coates read victim impact statements from Ms Eaton's mother and sister.
Her mother said her life was now a ''meaningless blur'' and could not understand how her ''kind hearted daughter had suffered such a heartless death''.
Mr Coates said Dobson's act to cover up his crime showed a ''callous disrespect '' for Ms Eaton's family.
Defence lawyer Tamara Jago said Dobson had a troubled upbringing, which included neglect.
Ms Eaton's remains were found in a shallow grave at Pelham near New Norfolk.
Dobson will be sentenced by Chief Justice Alan Blow on September 8.
