Thanks to the hard work and dedication of the Campbell Town Football Club, the community has raised $7000 for the Campbell Town Cancer Support Group.
This donation will go towards the purchase of a new community care car to take patients to the Holman Clinic.
The club raised well over its $5000 target for the care car thanks a successful ball held last month.
Thanks to businesses across the district including Banjos Campbell Town, A Little Piece of Heaven and Burger Me, as well as the club's players, committee members and everyone who came along on the night, the community is now well on the way to buying a new car.
Campbell Town Football Club committee member Lesley Burn said that the club always knew that they wanted to raise money to support cancer but also wanted to keep the campaign within the local community.
"Originally we started to come up with ideas to fundraise for cancer," Mrs Burn said.
"We decided to keep the fundraiser for cancer but for a local cause."
Mrs Burn said that once the club had the idea to hold a ball, the community came together to contribute.
"From there we organised a band to donate their time and then we organised the guernseys which were sold off and put back into the fundraiser," she said.
"Everyone who contributed something donated it, so that's why we ended up getting the $7000."
Mrs Burn said that having the use of a care car to the Holman Clinic was an important addition to the community.
"The community car does the whole district. It transports cancer patients to the Holman Clinic in Launceston, and it also takes patients who have got specialist appointments," she said.
"They are definitely in need of another car."
