Last weekend it was the community's turn to show its appreciation to the region's former deputy mayor by renaming the Prospect Vale Park building the Ray Johnstone Centre.
Mayor Craig Perkins said more than 100 friends, family and junior footballers attended the unveiling.
"Ray's commitment to council and the Meander Valley community has been exemplary," Cr Perkins said.
"He has worked tirelessly for the sustainable development of council's resources and assets and listened and responded well to the needs of his community.
"His straight shooting and determined style has led him to champion many important causes and Prospect Vale Park is one that I know is very close to his heart."
Cr Perkins said Mr Johnstone was heavily involved in attracting the Federal Group to Prospect Vale and developing Blackstone Heights.
"Anticipating the population growth of Prospect, Ray lobbied hard for sport and recreation infrastructure and was instrumental in this becoming a reality at Prospect Vale Park," he said.
Mr Johnstone was both the Westbury Council warden and deputy warden before his role as the Meander Valley's deputy mayor and councillor until his retirement in 2009.
