The two-part performance, The Songs & The Stories In Concert, will delve into the back story of many of his iconic songs, and will also include favourites from the Spirit of the Anzacs album.
"I've been doing similar things for 20 years and I thought it was time to break that mould," the country music star told X-static.
"We've had a lot of big country rock shows, which I will continue to do, but the Anzacs are a precious part of our history and it requires a different mindset to properly do those stories justice and do those men and women justice.
"Many people wouldn't know much about the inspiration about a lot of these songs, they would know the songs, but not where they came from.
"It is incredibly moving and emotional because they are true stories and not something that has been made up in a song writing studio; I am so proud I have been able to adapt these stories to music.
"It is beautiful and it is very gratifying, because not many people get to examine these letters and research them they way we have and there is a great sense of pride that goes with that.
"I hope people will feel a whole range of emotions and it is going to affect people in different types of ways.
Kernaghan, former Australian of the Year with 17 albums to his name, said he couldn't wait to return to Tasmania.
"Tassie has always been a great supporter and we've had many sold-out shows there.
"The Princess Theatre in Launnie, I think we've blown the roof off that place many times."
