Between the 35 pupils, about 500 trees were planted in the Launceston suburb as part of Bell Bay Aluminium’s annual tree planting
project.
‘‘We’ve been doing
this for about five years and in this area of Newnham we have planted before, and we have trees here from about four or five years ago that are doing really well,’’ Bell Bay Aluminium community relations specialist Lou Clark said.
‘‘This location is quite perfect for us, and this is is a nice partnership with the Launceston City Council preparing this land for us and allowing us to plant here.’’
St Finn Bar’s Catholic School and East Tamar Primary School pupils also planted trees at Newnham on Monday, with Invermay Primary School, West Launceston Primary School and St Anthony’s Catholic School to do the same at Tailrace Park on Tuesday. Port Dalrymple, Beaconsfield and Star of the Sea pupils will plant trees in East Tamar on Friday.
