Released on Monday, the Operation Roam initiative between Crime Stoppers and all Australian police jurisdictions lists the country’s 20 most dangerous fugitives.

At the top of the pile is 57-year-old Graham Gene Potter, formerly of Pipers River.

Potter was found guilty of murder in 1982 after he killed and dismembered 19-year-old Kim Barry in Wollongong, dumping her headless and fingerless body in bushland.

The vicious crime occurred during his buck’s night, on the eve of his 1981 wedding.

Potter was also one of 20 people charged across Australia in 2007 after the Australian Federal Police netted the world’s single-largest ecstasy haul – worth $440million in street value.

About 15,000 ecstasy tablets were found hidden in 3000 tomato tins inside an Italian shipping container at the Port of Melbourne.

Potter’s arrest led to the revelation he had moved to Northern Tasmania a few years after being released from a NSW jail in 1996 — where he had served 15 years for Ms Barry’s  murder.

He is  accused of a role in the 2008 murder of two men who were known associates of Australian underworld figure Mick Gatto.

Police would also like to speak with Potter in relation to serious drug charges that saw him extradited from Tasmania in August, 2009.

Potter fled in February, 2010 after he failed to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on conspiracy to murder charges.

Also on the Most Wanted List are Troy Newton and Wade Mackenzie, who both have strong ties to Tasmania.

Queensland Police Assistant Commissioner Paul Stewart has urged Australians to be mindful of the men.

‘‘Even though their original place of residence may be elsewhere, they may have moved into your area,’’ he said.

Crime Stoppers Australia chairman Bryan Roach said rewards  were in place for tips that lead to the arrest of any of the men.

‘‘Our list features 20 fugitives who are suspected of serious crimes such as murder, assault, armed robbery, rape and drug trafficking, as well as a range of other crimes. They need to be accountable for their alleged offences,’’ he said.

Anyone who sees Potter, Newton or Mackenzie is urged not to speak to them and immediately call triple-0.
