The Local Peer Group, to be established in St Helens, will reach out to people or families who are seeking more information about what support is available to them in their local area.
Aimed at young people as they transition from school to adult life, the group session is open to those who want to make the most of the NDIS in their community.
The group session has been designed to be accessible to all people in the East Coast area, from people with a disability to parents, carers and families.
Highlighting the importance of understanding the NDIS, the sessions will have no set agenda but will focus on building support networks, sharing information and resources, connecting with local communities, understanding the NDIS and developing local solutions.
Speak Out community connector Domonique Vittori will be involved in the sessions and said that he was excited to bring information to people in the St Helens region.
"It's really to support people in their community to understand the NDIS and how they can support each other," Mr Vittori said.
"Because it's new and next year they're going to start to rollout to the rest of the community, it's a good time to engage with the community so people can get to know it a bit better to prepare themselves for the NDIS when they reach it.
"We would encourage people to come along and see what the group is all about ... the group can take the form that the community desires, there is so specific agenda or format of the group."
The information session will be run by Speak Out, NDIS and the St Helens Neighbourhood house.
The first session of the Local Support Group will be held on August 14, 11am to 1pm, at the St Helens Neighbourhood house, anyone interested in attending should RSVP to launceston@speak outadvocacy.org by August 12.
