South Esk swimmers, who also had the biggest entry contingent, won a total of 129 medals — including 67 gold, 44 of them for individual events.
The club also won a total of 30 silver and 32 bronze medals.
Next was Launceston Aquatic Club with 45 medals — 15 gold, 18 silver and 12 bronze.
Riverside Aquatic won 42 medals, with 15 gold, 13 silver and 14 bronze.
Also in the medal count were Latrobe with 13 medals (7 gold, 2 silver, 4 bronze); Cradle Coast 16 (5 gold, 8 silver, 3 bronze); and Burnie 14 (9 silver, 5 bronze).
Both sessions ran smoothly and finished ahead of schedule, according to Swimming Tasmania’s assistant chief referee (Northern region) Jayne Shepherd.
‘‘It was fantastic to see so many swimmers competing from all clubs across the North of the state,’’ she said.
‘‘It was a great atmosphere on pool deck and a number of swimmers recorded significant PB times heading into the state short course championships to be held in Hobart on September 5 and 6.’’
Speaking as South Esk president, Shepherd said that among the highlights were Aran Miller’s two new Swimming Australian Down Syndrome records.
Riverside Aquatic president Doug Blackaby thanked coaches, team managers, timekeepers and other volunteers for their efforts.
‘‘Training during the winter months is tough, but the hard work put in by the swimmers and coaches was reflected in the 68 PBs and 42 medals achieved by RAC members; a very successful event,’’ he said. ‘‘Our focus now is towards the upcoming state championships.’’
Launceston Aquatic president Kevin French said the club was ‘‘extremely proud’’ of their swimmers’ efforts, both in the water and poolside. While team co-captain Freya Jetson led the way with four state records, French also highlighted the performances of a range of promising younger swimmers, and LAC’s clean sweep in the girls 11-12 years 100m breast and the open women’s 200m back events.
