Although the Bureau of Meteorology said there was a slight chance of snow in Launceston in the early hours of Monday morning, most of the snowfalls will occur in Western, Central and Southern areas, possibly accompanied by thunderstorms.
BoM duty forecaster Damien Everett said showers would clear over the North-East during the morning, with possible hail.
‘‘In the wee hours there is a chance of snow down to low levels, there might be some sleet or something in it, but you’re certainly going to have a nice view of Ben Lomond covered in snow at some stage through the day,’’ he said.
‘‘Temperature wise you will be lucky to break double figures.’’
Launceston is expected to reach just 9 degrees on Monday, accompanied by gusty winds.
Mr Everett said snow was still forecast to fall to sea level in Hobart, but was unable to predict if it would settle.
The BoM had issued a range of warnings on Sunday night, including a marine wind warning, sheep graziers warning, road weather alert and bush walkers weather alert.
A flood watch was issued for all north-eastern river basins and the Huon River.
On Sunday police advised that the Murchison Highway from Rosebery to Waratah and Anthony Road from Rosebery to Queenstown had been closed due to weather conditions.
Hazardous conditions were reported on the Midland Highway at Dysart, Pinnacle Road Fern Tree, Waratah Road at Waratah and Belvoir Road at Waratah.
