Miranda Grant and Molly Lewis have both been picked for the girls’ team, with their South Launceston teammates Ebony Walker-Kidd and Chloe Mason joining Queechy’s Emily Withington among the
train-ons.
In the boys’ team are Finn Bailey, of Queechy, and South Launceston’s James Sexton.
Hockey Tasmania’s Northern manager Jeremy Stebbings said he was pleased with the number of players in the Northern junior competition, which is underpinned by strong programs run by Launceston’s private schools.
‘‘A lot of good young players have moved to Hobart to progress their hockey, but we need to make sure the North continues to have good representation in the state sides,’’ Stebbings said.
‘‘James and Finn are both over-age but have been given exemption to play, so the boys’ team is looking good.
‘‘In the girls’, Molly scores a lot of goals and Miranda is a great defender who also plays in the Southern competition.’’
The championships in Perth will run from August 2-8.
